The Mr and I popped over to East London this weekend to enjoy some good old chicken and chips at Chicken Shop. The owners of Soho House has brought both Chicken Shop and Dirty Burger under one unassuming roof. The Whitechapel eatery is laid back and low key with a super simple menu, Burgers or Chicken - no dithering around here people!
The vibe is cool and chilled, funky vinyl music playing, menu on the wall, attentive waiters and beer on tap. Being the hungry beavers that we were we got a whole chicken, which I could see on the spit roast in front of me. Side portion of chips and soft drinks, sorted. Unlike
Nando's, theres no varying level of spiciness, just smokey or hot
sauce. I have to say Nandos sauces win in this instance.
Ahh check out the chicken, it was succulent and not too dry, dig in and get messy! We were suitable stuffed. I read their chicken is marinaded, steamed and then cooked over charcoal on there rotisserie, tasted pretty good!
The staff were attentive, clearing up plates promptly and
there was no long wait for drinks or food. The table turnaround is very
quick, they give you an hr, so no dawdling.
If you want a laid back meal then pop along for some tasty bites. There's currently 3 branches in London - Tooting, Kentish Town and Whitechapel. Open 9am - 11pm Saturdays, 9am - 10pm Sundays and 8am - 10pm weekdays, with take out option as well.
