I've never been to Tokyo, so I can only imagine it's amazing and the food I'm sure is second to none. Whilst my plane ticket to the far east may be currently out of reach, a trip to Chotto Matte a Japanese Peruvian restaurant in London is much more accessible!
With it's bold menu and graphics, the restaurant is far from inconspicuous. The restaurant is split over 2 floors, the ground floor has a cocktail lounge, we sat upstairs in the main dining area, which has the open grill and sushi bar area with lots of seating. For a Tuesday evening the top floor was practically packed out and wasn't too noisy at all, who wants to be shouting over food?

Chotto Matte can boast their sushi chef who used to serve the Emperor of Japan, seriously?! We're definitely in for treat. The menu has a medley of cold and hot appetisers, tempura, sushi and barbecue dishes, all designed for sharing. Naturally we wanted to try a bit of everything so here's what we ordered.
Miso aubergine / Tuna and yellow tail tartar / Pork belly / Soft shell crab
Sato maki - which was seared with a blow torch! Beef rib eye / Chicken Teriyaki / Octopus

The
food came at a steady pace and plates were cleared promptly. The staff
were attentive and friendly, in particular our waiter Mike was happy to
recommend us dishes, as there is an overwhelming selection. I like how
there were familiar flavours such as teriyaki and tempura but more
unusual ones such as the barbecue octopus, definitely recommend!
Chotto Matte would be a great place for dates, friends and parties. Dinner on average around £30+ not including cocktails. Well worth the visit if you're heading down to Soho
