Today is mine and Hang's 3rd wedding anniversary, (here's a post about our wedding if you fancy a read) So with baby in tow this year, I thought it would be nice to have a trip to the seaside to celebrate. We haven't been to the beach in ages and didn't really want to go in the heatwave! Luckily the weather was nice and warm yesterday when we drove down to the Kent Coast to the seaside town of Whitstable. I've always wanted to visit Whitstable, which is known for it's oysters, picturesque beach houses and pebble beaches. We had a lovely time exploring the cute shops, walking along the harbour and admiring the colourful beach huts. Hope you guys enjoy seeing what we got up to on our day trip :)
I
grew up in a seaside town in Sussex but it's no where near as pretty
as Whitstable! I didn't expect to see so many pastel hues and
colourful shops, it was something out of a postcard. The main street was lined with seafood restaurants, boutiques selling nautical trinkets and cute dessert cafes.
We had fish and chips for lunch (of course!) at V.C. Jones. It's a very old fashion cafe, which you can eat in or takeaway. The dining room was filled with families tucking into their simple and tasty lunch. The portions were huge so Hang and I shared and it was more than enough. To walk off our lunch, we strolled down to the seafront and it was calm and not too busy. Kiddies were playing on the pebble beaches and dipping into the sea. Day trippers were chilling on the beach and enjoying ice creams by the sea. We had some oysters at The Forge, which is an open seaside shack - a nice spot to eat and enjoy the view. The oysters were so cheap, £6 for 4 and they were delish! Whitstable also have their oyster festival in July, which I can imagine is heaving with people.
I've seen pictures of the colourful beach huts in Whitstable so we strolled down to Tankerton Beach to check them out. How pretty are the huts! I love all the pastel shades, of course I chose the blue one to match my outfit :) How fun would it be to have your own beach hut in the Summer?
It was so nice being by the sea, a lovely day trip from London. It was over an hour drive from where we live or you can get the train from Kings Cross. The weather was perfect and we didn't get stuck in traffic on the way back, hurrah. Baby was an angel all day, I was worried he would cry in the car journey but he napped 3 times when we was out - all the fresh air must of knocked him out haha. Have you been to the beach this Summer?
