WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE A CREATIVE SLUMP

What To Do When You Have A Creative Slump

It happens to the best of us. Those days when you can't get your creative mojo going, every idea you think of seems flat and you can't string two sentences together. If only there's a button I can switch on to get my creative light bulb on! So when I feel the need to get this 'light' switched back on, I try and focus on these few pointers to help me get out of my creative slump - let's do this!

SWITCH UP YOUR ROUTINE

Doing the same thing day in day out may be a necessity when we have to earn a living or study, but when you can it's good to switch up your day. Have a meeting at a new location, walk through a different route on your lunch break or maybe try popping into a different fitness class in the week. A change in environment can help keep us on our toes, keeps the day fresh - like coffee no one like things going stale! You'll train your mind to think outside the box with new and different ideas, and might even gain exciting new perspective on things.

BE OPEN TO NEW PEOPLE

Have you been to an event, a social or even a night out at a bar and met some interesting and creative people unexpectedly? I went to my friends leaving party the other weekend, got chatting to a guy and found out he was a film maker. Film has always been a passion of mine, having worked in the industry for 7 years. Speaking to new people about something they're passionate about - sparks that creative side of you. I have a stash of business cards I pick up from people I meet, you never know when you might need them! Don't be afraid to ask new people what their passions and dreams are. It's a great way to find like minded people in unexpected situations.

REFRESH YOUR ONLINE HABITS

Do you get bore or uninspired looking at the same sites everyday? I love discovering new sites recommended from friends, colleagues or other bloggers. Some of my favourites for all kinds of different inspirations include Gala Darling, The Every Girl, Refinery 29 and She Said. Online resources is a must for me to get new ideas, find tips and tricks for my blog as well as helpful hacks. What are some of your favourite sites? I love finding new ones!

THE BEST IDEAS ARE OFTEN UNEXPECTED

I sometimes find myself going round and round in circles when I'm trying to think of an idea, such as designing something for my wedding, drafting blog posts or even creating a mood board for my home. I lie in bed and think about what I'm trying to achieve, what message am I trying to convey and then one tiny idea forms in my head and then I have to write it down - in my case on my phone! Even if it's a small idea, jot it down - it might grow into something interesting. I've been racking my brain about what post to write next and then I just came up with this one last night. If you have an idea, no matter how small just run with it!

How do you get your creative juices going?
