FEATURE WALL NURSERY MAKEOVER WITH PHOTOWALL

FEATURE WALL NURSERY MAKEOVER WITH PHOTOWALL

Happy New Year everyone! Isn't it crazy to think we're in a new decade? To kick off the new year, I've got a very exciting interiors post (plus discount for you guys) I see so many dreamy nursery decor online but for my little boy, his room was definitely not Pinterest worthy. Even though it's relaxing and child friendly, it lacked style and character and wasn't very inspiring. So when Photowall - a Swedish wall-art company got in touch and asked if I wanted to collaborate, I jumped at the chance to make over the nursery with a feature wall! Firstly I was really inspired from what I saw from Photowall, their wall-art selection from murals, to wallpaper, to canvas prints opened my eyes to a whole new world of interiors and transforming your home. The more I read about the company, I was inspired by their story and passion for quality and creative design as well as giving back to the environment and only printing what they need.

Photowall Ethos:

"Passionate people from Sweden whose hearts beat for design. We believe that the walls of a room affect how we feel.
That's why our mission is to help people fill their walls with great art."

I was a bit overwhelmed by the wall paper section initially but Photowall makes it easier by having lots of categories and you can select by style - eg nature or abstract and also by room. You can go really bold and change the whole look and feel of your room. I narrowed down my search to kids room and nature. I knew I wanted something warm, homely and inspired by nature. My son's room is small and currently painted lilac so I needed something that would compliment the existing paint colour. We also have dado rails, so I decided to go for a mural and make a feature wall on the top half of the wall. I eventually found 'Whimsical Pink'* and knew that was the perfect design! It's a muted beige background with cute hand drawn designs of animals, bikes, plants and little acorns. It's subtle and stylish and would compliment the existing nursery minimal design.

So once I decided on a print, I measured the wall space and put in the dimensions online (allow a few extra cms). Each package is shipped free worldwide 1-2 days and comes with wall paper paste. They also sell a wall paper kit for £18, which includes a brush for applying the paste, a seam roller, a brush to smooth the paper, a knife and cutting guide and pencil. Everything you need for your DIY project!

The packages come with instructions but I also watched the Photowall Youtube video as I like visual instructions, especially when I've not wall papered before. I followed the tutorial, cutting the wall paper strips, which were all numbered for  reference and got started! Here are some images of the room before, the only tricky parts I had to consider was wall papering around the door frame and light switch.

I started off by cleaning and wiping down the walls, mixed up the paste and drew up the first marking with pencil. To work around a light switch, I watched a Youtube video on how to do that as well. Once I got going it wasn't as daunting as I thought, I would recommended making sure all the edges are lined up and that they are completely sealed with paste. Once all the paper was on I smoothed everything down with the brush and used the roller to make sure all the seams were flat. I then worked on trimming the edges using the knife. I let everything dry over night and admired my handy work the next day:) I was really impressed with the quality of the paper, it's really durable and easy to wipe down.

The next day, I touched up any loose edges with more paste. I have to say the mural has really transformed the nursery! It has added so much character and style to a plain room, it adds a feature but doesn't overtake the room and compliments the existing look and feel. It now has a woodland, Nordic vibe and I'm so pleased with the results and ease of putting up the Photowall wall paper. It makes me realise how plain and boring the room looked before! I would love to know what you guys think? Have you thought about adding wall paper to one of your rooms?
